Did you know De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising was designed to have no right way up? The cover works at any angle! In this "Covers a Cover" episode, I share what I learned about this glorious De La debut – the punk historian/collector responsible for the neon D.A.I.S.Y Age aesthetic, design process, photography, inside sleeve comics, and other random connections!
This record brought me so much joy as a kid and I thought the design was worth talking about.
And of course, this episode is dedicated to the brilliant David Jude Jolicoeur / Trugoy the Dove / Plug 2 / Dave. He passed way too soon but left a giant legacy. He revealed his battle with congestive heart failure publicly in November 2017, in the opening scene of the video for De La's "Royalty Capes". In the video, Trugoy wears a LifeVest defibrillator and said, "it will shock me, and hopefully bring me back from the matrix. I'm ready just to get back to the stage. I miss it. I love traveling; I love being around my guys. And I want that back." #restinpowertrugoy
